5" gray borders appeared on sides of Olevia 40" tv-in addition to black borders for aspect, full, zoom, etc.?

Two days ago a gray border suddenly appeared on both sides of the screen of my old Syntax Olevia (which is out of business and the new Olevia corp. is no help). I've tried the "cropping" turned on and off but still have wide, light gray bars on both sides of the screen. I've changed the aspect every which way but gray bars remain regardless of how the black borders move around. They do dissappear whenever the TIVO menu is on the screen, when Instant Netflix is streaming and when DVD's are on. But live TV and all recorded shows - even ones recorded prior - have the gray bars. Oddly, YouTube which I also get through TIVO has them too. My 40-inch television has turned into a 32-inch television. Any ideas?
