Questions about TiVo Premiere HD DVR?

Hello, I am planning on purchase one of this device to record the TV shows I like via antenna broadcast, but by reading through the specifications, I notice that the purchaser needs to pay for Tivo subscription fees monthly to have this thing to get to work, as I assumed. So my question is: 1)Do I really need to pay monthly fees for this device for just recording antenna TV programs without use any other Tivo services? 2)Can I extract the recorded TV shows as files from this device to my PCs?
