How to make a DVD Recorder record the whole show?

I want to know how to make sure the dvd recorder records the whole show, I want to record a baseball game and I want to make sure the whole game is recorded. The game is from 7:00 PM to 10:00 pm. If the game goes to overtime how do i make sure the dvd recorder will record the whole thing. I dont want it to stop at 10:00 and I don't want to to record after the baseball game. Is there a way how to record it so I dont miss anything and dont record longer then the game? Also, I dont have DVR or TIVO.
