Is there a work around for cable-card for digital cable on a Tivo Premiere?

I have a Tivo Premiere and it has an internal digital tuner. I was told by my cable company that if the DVR has a internal digital tuner it would not need a cable-card. Is there a setting I can change to tell it to see the channels? It can see digital channels as there is a digital antenna on it to get the local broadcast digital channels. I am willing to get the m-card that the system needs to run for full function, but it will be at least 2 weeks before I can get an appointment with a tech. Also, the installation of the card can only be done by a tech, or so I have been told. I am going to look into that further, but am not holding much hope. Any help is appreciated. I can only currently get 22 channels of the 100 I pay for, so its more than a little frustrating.
